Did you make a mistake or forgot your way?
Did you make a mistake or forgot your way?
I think most of us do a lot of research before going for trekking but I made a mistake when I decided to go to Tabo Monastery in Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh in Himalaya from Shimla because the place is easy to reach from Manali. Tabo Monastery, 3050 meter above Sea level also known as “world of peace” or a new world where people speak very little or keep smiling only. That is another story but I can assure you that there is no other place like this for adventurous trekking.

I'm very bad a remembering the routes. This might sound a bit weird but it is a hard fact. I can never ever think of going on a journey alone. I'm always dependent on my fellowmen and blindly follow them.
If I were to lead then everyone will surely end up in a disaster.

Well, normally we too go on any trekking and hiking with all plans. But one time we took some local boys for the route but they too forgot the way in the jungle because of rain as all route was get changed. At that time we walked in the jungle for whole day but we didn't find any proper route. Finally we have to spend whole night in the jungle by doing camp fire ( as to be save from animals ). We were also not having extra water at that night. As it was rainy season some small water fall was there in the jungle and we drank water from there. Fortunately we were total 15 to 20 people at that night so we spend the night by chatting each other and next day in afternoon we went out the Jungle.
We all tired so much on that day, but still it is like exciting memory in all of mind.

Nice stories right there guys, thanks for sharing! Being low on water is not something I envy @naruto100, but I've been in a similar situation actually, as I was following a trek, somehow confused the signs and ended up in another one the top of a mountain. Fortunately enough we have rivers there, and the water was so clean we could fill our bottles directly there, while wild horses were looking at us without even running away. Great memories!
I love most outdoor activities!

Actually we were having enough water. We made plan for half day only but as we forgot the route we have to walk too much almost for whole day with climbing too. So we just gone out of water in no time. So at last we had no other option than going for that water fall water as all of us were too much tired.

What do you mean going for the water fall @naruto100?
Another time I got lost, but we got clever, as we had a small river that on the deepest zones we had water to the waistline, and we simply got inside the river and followed it, so it's always a good strategy when there's such an opportunity. It's also a unique experience to trek on a river!

In my years of hiking and camping, losing the way is common especially because there was no map and sometimes only a sketch was our guide (that is usually wrongly drawn). For me, it is important to know the direction like if the destination is to the north. I would be using the sun for navigating so in case we are amiss in our direction, at least I would know.

It was rainy season so there were many small water fall kind of things in jungle. (I guess we can call them water fall or may be other word, don't know). So we have to go for it for filling our water bottles.
Yes river is the good option, but unfortunately there wasn't any river near by us at that time. So have to use that only.

Re: Did you make a mistake or forgot your way?
The only time I had actually lost my way around a mountain was when I tried to walk faster than the rest of the crowd which was too slow in my opinion.
I went quite far ahead and saw many Ravens that wouldn't even budge despite shooing away with the stick and were looking really sinisters. I had to retrace my steps back to the rest of the groups only to realise I was on the wrong track! On a mountain when you climb in a winding fashion the echoes sounds real close by but could be really misleading!
That was the first time I had seen Ravens anyways, lol.

Re: Did you make a mistake or forgot your way?
It was indeed a terrible mistake we had met with my group of hikers, trekking the mountainous place where we're required to complete a 5-kilometer nature's hike. In the first place, we're treading the right way for we could read the trail signs which are very obvious, not until I reached the peak of the mountain and we're about to go down, we couldn't no longer see any trace of those trail signs. We're lost, the 8-group we have sighed.
We took a few minutes rest under the shady tree on the half-way of the mountain. It's already getting late and we could see on top of us the raid clouds. In case, it would rain we would be sorry and we could get all wet. We didn't want to take our luck by tracing footmarks along the way for we might be heading to the wrong place.
It's good we noticed someone is going down from the top and he gestured us to go left. We sighed of relief for we're about to go straight right for the path seems to be leading to the foot of the mountain. In truth, it didn't get us to our camp. Anyway, we heeded the instruction given us and we arrived at the camp past 6 in the evening and we're the only group that everyone was expecting to arrive.
We realized our fault that we failed to bring our compass and also our binoculars for we're not allowed to bring us handsets or mobile phones for the place is infected with bad elements.
