Campfire

Postby Decentlady » Thu Feb 16, 2017 5:38 pm

Whenever the word camping is mentioned I feel it is incomplete without a campfire. Of course not all camping trips can have a campfire but for me it just goes hand in hand. Most memorable moments during a camping trip are from the time spent around a campfire.

Do you think a campfire has its own charm and should be part of a camping trip whenever possible?

I go camping quite a bit. And I'm usually the one keeping the campfire going. Yes I believe there is a certain charm and should be apart of every Camping Trip @Decentlady. After we get the tents set up, the next thing we do is look for fire wood, unless the site has it on hand. Not only does a good campfire provide warmth, it provides a predator and insect beacon, also a great place to cook your meals. There is definitely something hypnotizing about sitting around a campfire and watching the little flames dance.

Oh, campfire is so nice! It's been a while since my last time. :(

I always used to go with my friends, and it was always so much fun. I have great memories of that time (and the tales of terror represent a good part of them  ).

This post made me feel very nostalgic now (but that's a good thing :D ).

Of course it is best part of camping. I remember one experience which is unforgettable for lifetime. We went for hiking in forest area. Unfortunately we forgot the way and we lost in the forest. After searching for lot we decide to stay in some safe area at night because it was already 8pm night time. So to be safe from cold and animal we decided to have campfire and we had great night out there.

Campfires are always so much of fun .They fill everyone with excitement. I love them and can sit and look at the fire for hours.
The open sky above and burning fire in front of me fills me with an unexplained energy.

When I was in Uni we used to have fun around campfire. We'll do a lot of silly things, dance, sing (yell?) around it especially when no one can see one's face clearly in the dark.

Now campfire is not for that crazy thing but we still make it for warmth. However I found it's pretty hard to make one with branch or wood collected on the ground (possibly it's too wet?). Sometimes I managed to fire up but it just couldn't last for long, only part of the branch was burnt. I wonder if there's any trick??? I have no choice but go for firewood sold in the store.... spent money and carried heaps of dusty wood around.

There is a nature camp resort here where campfire is allowed. Our last trip there was last year when we camped with teenagers who were guests of my niece. It was really a fun night when the camp attendant prepared the woods for the campfire which were placed on a metal sheet to protect the ground. And when the fire was already up and running, there came my wife and her sister with long sticks of marshmallows for roasting. I hope we can do a repeat this summer.

While I think that most people would agree that camping without a fire just isn't the same, one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is the safety aspect of it. For those of us that are more experienced then we will know how to set up a fire safely and make sure that we keep to any rules and regulations that are put in place, but for those who are less experienced then starting a camp fire can go wrong very quickly indeed.

We can't just go round starting fires because they look nice or because we feel like it enhances the camping experience, without thinking about the damage they can do. There have been many bush fires started by campfires that have had devastating consequences so that's something that we should be aware of. I'm not trying to be a kill-joy, and take all the fun out of camping, I'm just making sure that we are all aware that we need to be responsible and think about just what we are doing to make sure that we and everybody else is safe,

Camp fire night is one of the major events in every camping experience, the excitement following is always a memorable one. In one of my camping I discovered that during the fire night it could burn for a number of hours, because of the heavy woods that are usually laddened inside, serving as a source of natural light for the good moment.

I have been in the scouting movement for 51 years and an outdoor camping is not complete without campfire. Campfire concludes the entire boy scout outdoor camping for a week long, for two weeks or more. Campfire is the culminating activity for every troop to present its members' talent like skit, songs and yells, among others. It ends with a benediction by a member of the training or camping staff who is invoking the blessings of the great scout of all time.
