Have you ever suffered (or saw anyone suffer) any serious accidents while climbing?

Thank God this never happened to me, but I've seen a friend suffer a serious accident while climbing a few years ago. It was a fall (caused by the breaking of a rope) from a considerable height, but that unbelievably didn't leave him serious injuries.

It was a shocking scene!

I have never done that kind of climbing so far. So nope, I haven't experienced anything like that. But the incident you mentioned is sounds scary enough to avoid it in future. We used to go for hiking and small trekking many times, but never experienced climbing anytime. So it sounds dangerous.

Yes, I have seen a immature religious 'climber' fell off from about 15 feet while trying to climb an unusual path. Actually she was supposed to walk on the road for that particular distance while going from Katra to Vaishno Temple in Jammu region of Himalaya but the group she was traveling tried to take risky rout and she slipped and hurt herself seriously. Fortunately helicopter ambulance service was available in nearby camp which rescued her immediately.

That's terrible. I wonder why she choose hard path and took risk. Though I know some people who used to of this thing. They always choose hard path for adventure purpose and took risk. But I never seen anyone face any kind of accident. But yes better to stick with safe path then choosing such path without any experience of climbing and all.

I have watched a few scenes where people have actually suffered some degree of injuries from miscalculated falls. The problem is some persons are just too daring and with no enough care when climbing heights. Personally I know I am not very skilled at going that far high up and wouldn't go pass some level. I have experienced a fall, the good thing it wasn't that high and just suffered minor injuries

I surely hope not to see or experience a serious accident during a climb or even in camping. The purpose of the climb is to enjoy the activity and the place. When there is a serious accident then it will surely ruin your trip. For purposes of safety, climbers should always adhere to the basic safety rules in climbing and have their gear ready and checked.

I have never experienced an accident while climbing. I once saw a tourist slip to his death after breaking his back. I have since resulted to indoor climbing mostly. I only do outdoor climbing once in a while. I like indoor climbing because risks are minimised. There is also protective gear in case one slips. Outdoor climbing requires some degree of skill since it is usually a matter of life and death.

I think it is safe to climb if you are doing it with all the precautions and safety measurements. Indoor climbing is safer than the outdoor but outdoor is much more fun. It really does need some skill and courage.

I have seen a serious accident one time when I was travelling that left at least one person dead. Many attributed the accident to reckless over taking. It surprises me why a driver won't be patient to see far at the other lane before attempting to overtake in a non dualized express road

Everything that is done with more security is better, no matter if it is indoor or outdoor. But it's a pity that millions of people only realize this when they suffer some sort of accident (and this is pretty bad). Awareness has to start earlier precisely to avoid the possible problems.
